Notice of Motion: From Riders, For Riders

As Calgary continues to grow at a rapid pace, access to transit and the transit experience needs to be prioritized. While major revitlizations related to routes, frequency, safety and purchasing buses have been the primary focus, there are also small changes that can make the transit experience more positive.

I spent the first few months of the year working alongside a local activist group, Calgary Transit Riders, to better understand what small changes would be most impactful. A few of my Council colleagues joined us in surveying transit users at Northe Pointe Terminal, Anderson Station and Saddletowne Station.

Myself, Councillor Penner, members of Calgary Transit Riders, and a few transit operators during our engagement at Anderson LRT Station.

After several hundred survey responses and feedback from the Transit Department, I brought forward a Notice of Motion to request an assessment and response to several suggestions for improving the transit experience.

Small tweaks like extending the duration of a standard fare, eliminating digital ticket expiry, and broadcasting CTrain arrival times at stations are some of the recommendations included in the Motion. You can read the full list below.

I am pleased to say that the Motion was passed unanimously by Council. Administration will be reporting back on the Motion at the May 14th Infrastructure and Planning Committee. Stay tuned for updates!
