Councillor Mian’s Motion for a Nose Creek Park Strategy Passes.

As Ward 3 continues to develop and add new communities, one of the biggest items of feedback I have received from residents is the desire for green space. One particular area of concern is the Nose Creek Valley.

The Nose Creek area has served as a de facto park for us for a very long time, and local activists, like the Nose Creek Preservation Society, have worked tirelessly to advocate for its protection.

The center green space is the area encompassing the Aurora Lands.

Right now, the City is reviewing the Area Structure Plan (ASP) that will guide the development of the Aurora Lands, the 234-hectare area between 96 Ave NE and Beddington Trail NW. The draft plan for the area will come forward at the end of the year.

While attending engagement sessions for the Aurora ASP, I heard first hand from residents how much they desired a park in this area. As this development and others advance, I put forth a Notice of Motion to assess the feasibility of a regional park within the Nose Creek Vallely.

My motion outlines goals for the preservation and enhancement of the ecological network, collaboration with surrounding municipalities, and coordinating future capital investments and planned transportation networks in the area.

The Nose Creek Park Strategy was passed unanimously by Council on Oct 29th. I look forward to stewarding this work as Administration implements this motion over the coming years.

Administration will report back to Council no later than Q4 2026 with a Nose Creek Strategy that outlines the feasibility of locating a regional park within the Nose Creek Valley. Once we have the Strategy, I will advocate for capital funding.
