Hanson Ranch Traffic Safety Updates
Update February 2025:
The posted speed limit along at Hidden Creek Blvd, Hidden Creek Drive, and Hidden Creek Road will be reduced to 40km/h. The signage to communicate this will be installed in Q1 2025.
The City’s Mobility (formerly Roads) team will be reviewing the crosswalks along the corridor to assess and determine if improvements are warranted.
Improvements such as signed and marked crosswalks, enhanced crosswalks, and pedestrian signals (RRFB, Overhead Flashers) are criteria-based and require traffic counts to understand the pedestrian demand and traffic volumes at the location.
There are recent (2023/2024) traffic counts for several of the intersections, including the intersections of Hidden Creek Bv and Hidden Creek Rd NW. The City will undertake crossing reviews at these locations. For the other intersections where the traffic counts are older, Mobility will request new traffic counts and undertake the reviews once the new counts are available.
These initiatives do take time, but I will continue to listen to resident concerns and advocate as best as I can.
Update May 2024: The City is gathering feedback on the proposed changes throughout May. You can view the full details and submit your feedback here.
This past fall, my office hosted a survey on the proposed roundabout in Hanson Ranch. The results of the survey confirmed that a permanent structure will be planned for Summer/Fall 2024. See more here.
The City’s Mobility department hosted a subsequent open house to hear traffic concerns from Hanson Ranch residents.
Both of these engagements have resulted in several traffic safety improvements that will soon be underway along Hidden Creek Drive, Blvd, and Way.
The proposed improvements being investigated are:
40km Speed Reduction and Signage
Temporary Curb Extensions - at multiple locations to narrow the lanes
Crosswalk Improvements
Addition of Shoulder Line throughout the corridor
Temporary Speed Humps
Permanent Roundabout at Hidden Creek Blvd x Hidden Creek Way to replace the current temporary installation.
Timelines for the proposed work:
May 2024: City-hosted online engagement to solicit resident feedback on draft plans
June 2024: Finalize the design
July-August 2024: Temporary installations
Summer-Fall 2024: Permanent roundabout installation
